LANSING - Gov. Jennifer Granholm has urged President-elect Barack Obama to get behind a plan to help the struggling auto industry.
The Michigan governor met personally with Obama Tuesday during a National Governors Association meeting in Philadelphia.
She told reporters in a conference call afterward that Obama was "looking forward" to seeing the restructuring plans put forth by the domestic automakers.
She says enabling the domestic automakers to remain solvent is important to the nation, not just Michigan, and that Congress must act quickly to approve $25 billion in loans.
Obama supports vehicles powered by alternative fuel, and Granholm says the U.S. shouldn't outsource that technology to other countries.
