Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) leader Tifatul Sembiring has moved a step closer to joining the next Cabinet as the communication and information minister.
Tifatul said on Saturday president-elect Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had asked him to develop information and communication technology (ICT) in the country during a meeting at Yudhoyono’s house in Cikeas in the West Java regency of Bogor.
"Pak SBY asked me to improve the country’s capability in information and communication technology. We talked about how ICT can help develop education quality now that high-tech has prevailed in schools," Tifatul said.
He added the next government would develop e-government, which can simplify administrative procedures.
Tifatul said he would relinquish his party job if appointed a minister.
